Antique Large Victorian Carved Burr Walnut Mirror Door Wardrobe With Drawer Base

A lovely Victorian carved burr walnut mirror door wardrobe. We date this wardrobe to the late 19th century. The wardrobe comes in two sections; the main section and a separate cornice.

Please note that the main section is large and heavy, please ensure adequate access and around corners etc... The sturdy cornice is of stepped design and has a decoratively carved cresting rail above a large band of dentil moulding. The wardrobe has a fitted drawer section and is raised on small square section feet. The front of the wardrobe is of three panel design with central panel being a side hinged mirror door. The long mirror glass is thick and bevelled and is showing only very minor signs of foxing. The door is fitted with a brass drop loop handle mounted on shapely embossed backplate. The handle turns to operate the catch. There is a lock fitted (no key is supplied but a suitable replacement should be obtainable if required). The two slender side panels have central recessed panels, with raised sections outlined with grooving, divided two thirds up with a cross rail. The top and bottom panels have been veneered with well matched, finely figured burr walnut and the central rails feature decorative relief carved floral detail. The interior of the hanging section is fitted with a brass side to side hanging rail and three rear mounted double coat hooks. The base of the wardrobe houses a single deep storage drawer below two further drawers. The drawer fronts have also been veneered with well matched, finely figured burr walnut and are fitted with a brass drop loop handles mounted on shapely embossed backplates. The wardrobe has a height of 87" (221cm) with a cornice width of 52" (132cm), a base width of 48" (122cm), a cornice depth of 21.5" (55cm) and a base depth of 20.5 (52cm).

This lovely Victorian walnut mirror door wardrobe remains in good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There are some minor age splits to the side panels near the base and the outer sides have some slightly heavier indentations from past use.

The bottom drawer is missing the small lockplate and the dentil work around the cornice is missing a couple of tiny pieces at the edge. There are some old filled worm holes to the rear of the wardrobe.
